bit.ly or bit.ly or PreOp.com – Patient Education – 617-244-7591 Your doctor has recommended that you have arthroscopic surgery in order to repair a torn meniscus in your knee. But what does that actually mean? The knee is one of the most important and one of the most complex joints in your body. It is made up of bone, ligament and cartilage. Damage to any individual part can dramatically restrict the normal movement of the leg and can even interfere with the ability to walk. Let’s take a look at the way the knee is put together. The femur, or thigh bone, meets the tibia to create a flexible joint called the knee. Helping to stabilize the knee are flexible bands of tissue called ligaments. Protecting the bony surfaces that rub together, are pads of tissue called cartilage. Cartilage acts like a cushion. Without it, every time you bend at the knee, you would cause the major bones of the leg to grind together. The meniscus is cartilage that not only protects the bone, but also acts like the leg’s shock absorber. Twisting or bending the knee during sports or even normal activity can damage the meniscus. Symptoms include swelling, restricted movement, pain and even the inability to stand on the effected leg.
….through the streets? Chris Neil is down with a knee injury. Just thought I’d warn y’all! LOL
You guys/gals are too much! Will you be my friend? LOL!! Will you buy me a pair of pants and a case of Bohemian?
I finished an intense session of running, but it doesn’t look like that has anything to do with it. I was asleep and woke up to notice I had my left leg straightened out to the fullest extent for some time while I was asleep, so I bent it because it was feeling uncomfortable being straight the time it had been. I noticed that it was painful to bend at first, but throughout the day bending it was easier, and now I can bend it to the fullest extent pain free, but I do feel a sore pain when swinging my leg back and forth and side to side using my knee as the bending point, I am hoping it isn’t something as serious as an ACL injury and something I can sleep off, would be grateful if someone could help with diagnosing
edit: it was the most intense running session I have done so far, I looked at tramadol, and it doesn’t seem to be what I need since the pain is not constant nor unbearable, just an aching pain when I swing the leg left to right or front to back

Aurora BayCare orthopedic surgeon Jon Henry describes how a new carticel procedure is improving mobility and reducing pain for patients like Michelle Ploor, who have experienced severe knee cartilage loss.
i have a knee injury from ramming it into the boards playing hockey. it was almost totally bent at the time, and the doctor said that the ligaments were fine. i’m wondering if it’s a torn meniscus, and could anyone tell me what that feels like? it hurts to run, or do any other sport that has running, cuz the impact is what hurts it. any professional answers would be appreciated, or personal experiencw works too
i also hurt it in march, so it isn’t a bruise
Its had plenty of time, it happened in march!
when will we stop complaining about how much the labourers make at the big companies and realize that the upper management are the one who pocket all the big bucks and bonues. Each time the hourly workers take a cut, management gets a raise, does this make sense?
Also does anyone realize how boring and hard it is to do the same thing over and over every few minutes at a running pace. The employees come up with all the ideas to make their jobs safer and less demanding but upper management takes all the credit. The employess go home exhausted, hurting, with shoulders, knees, joints and back injuries and upper management goes golfing.
Everyone needs better paying jobs, but if your only choice is factories, shouldn’t they get decent pay for labour.
Don’t assume we are under educated and can only do these jobs, most of us are university graduates who can’t find employment. We are men and women just trying to make a living and raise our families. I am so tired of hearing how much we make!
i am a kinesiology major and i have had just abotu every runnign injury in the book.
my 12 year old brother is complaining about pain on the inside of his left knee. he seems to be fine and then if he thinks about it he says it hurts and starts limping. he said he can run down teh street but past a point pain starts up.
sitting down he has a full range of motion and no pain…but standing he limps worse than i did when i had a stress fracture.
he describes the pain as pinching.
has anyone herad of this or experienced it…any ideas as to what it may be?
he said he hurt it when shaking out his leg (like he used to in swimming and the pain jsut started from then on…)
