Dr. Vivek Sharma describes alternatives to joint replacement surgery due to torn or damaged cartilage for younger patients who might not be candidates for traditional joint replacement surgery. This could also be for microfractures and graft transfers. Pain control is often a big issue and these procedures can often lead to people being able to get back to their sports or recreational activities. any suggestions or workout advice?

So a little over 2 weeks ago I sustained a knee injury which is forcing me to take time off of running. In the mean time I’ve started strength training to build up muscle mass during my down time. I’m no expert at body building here so how does this plan sound? (I’ve been doing it about a week now)

I want to follow this workout 6 days a week.

Push-ups 40 + 5 every week

Sit-ups 60 + 10 every week

Leg lifts 30 + 5 every week

Triceps dips 20 + 5 every week

Then I have weights

Dumbbell curls – 10lbs – 30 reps + 5 reps every week until I get to 50 reps then raise the weight to 20 lbs and lower my reps back to 30 and continue with the + 5 a week.

Lateral raises – 10lbs – 30 reps + 5 reps a week (Then same system as dumbbells)

Single arm rows – 20lbs – 30 reps + 5 reps a week (Then same system as dumbbells)

I’m starting myself off at a much lower intensity than I can truly handle so I can get away with working out 6 days a week. I know plenty about nutrition but I just need some input on this…I do tire out and get a little sore but nothing that is at all substantial.

So how does this sound? The idea is to slowly build up…

Soccer related arm injury…?

Last night at soccer some girl totaly plowed rigth through me and I wiped out. The fields aren’t exactly lush, we might as well be playing on cement. So I fell on my right side and scraped up my knee, hand and elbow. It was my upper right arm that took the weight. Then later that evening I was on the computer and my arm felt really weak and started twitching. My mom though I might of pinched a nerve. Today my arm is still slightly twitching and it feels all sore and bruised. I don’t think its anything serious, but is it just a bruise? (There is no visible bruise).
So obviously it will heal over time?
